Confirm the time and the building before you send flowers to Curlew Hills
Curlew Hills is a funeral home and a cemetery on one property. Besides the funeral home chapels, the grounds include mausoleums, garden sections and a Hellenic section with its own private chapel. A visitation, a chapel service and a graveside service can each happen in a different spot.
Before you order, confirm the date, the start time and where the service will be held. The obituary, the family or the funeral home staff can tell you. We do not assume their delivery procedures, so we ask you for those details and follow the funeral home's directions.
Put the full name of the person who passed and the service time in your delivery notes. With those, we plan to have your flowers there before the family arrives.
Standing sprays and casket sprays for a Curlew Road service
A standing spray is a large arrangement on an easel, placed near the casket or the memorial photo. Friends, coworkers, neighbors and church groups often send one together. A casket spray rests on the casket itself, and the immediate family usually chooses it, so ask the family before you order one.
Some services at Curlew Hills end outdoors by the graveside, on open lawns under the oaks. Florida sun is hard on delicate flowers, so we build funeral pieces in our Palm Harbor shop with blooms that hold up in heat.
If you are unsure which piece fits, a sympathy arrangement in a container is always appropriate. The family can take it home after the service.
Sympathy plants and flowers for a family at home in Curlew or Dunedin
Not every gesture belongs at the service. Many people prefer to send something to the family's home in the days after, when the visitors thin out and the house gets quiet. A home on Woodland Drive or a street just over the line in Dunedin is a few minutes from our shop.
A green plant lasts for weeks and asks little of a grieving family. A small vase arrangement is a gentle choice for a widow or widower living alone.
Curlew Hills also has a pet cemetery, a reminder that the loss of a pet hurts too. A simple arrangement sent to the home is a kind way to say you understand. Same-day home delivery is available for orders placed by 3:00 PM Eastern.
What to write on a sympathy card from Palm Harbor
Short and sincere is best. "Thinking of you and your family" or "With deepest sympathy" says enough. If you knew the person well, add one specific memory, like a shared walk or a phone call you still remember.
Sign with your full name, and your last name too if the family knows several people with your first name. For a group, name the group clearly, such as a team, an office or a neighborhood on Curlew Road, so the family knows who to thank later.
Avoid lines about how the person passed. The card is read during a hard week, often by someone other than the closest relative, so keep it warm and simple.

Curlew Road, between Palm Harbor and Dunedin
Curlew Road, also State Road 586, runs along the line between Palm Harbor to the north and Dunedin to the south.
The land along this stretch once held citrus groves. Curlew Hills Memory Gardens opened on March 1, 1979, on more than 30 acres of former groves.
Since 2011 the grounds have held a 9/11 memorial built around a steel beam from the World Trade Center. A memorial service is held there each September.
Head west and Curlew Road becomes Causeway Boulevard, the road to Honeymoon Island State Park. Head east and it crosses US 19 on its way to Oldsmar and Tampa Road.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are you part of Curlew Hills Memory Gardens?
No. Flowers N Baskets is an independent, family-owned florist on US 19 in Palm Harbor. We deliver flowers to services at Curlew Hills the same way we deliver to other funeral homes in north Pinellas.
When should sympathy flowers arrive for a service at Curlew Hills?
Flowers should arrive before the visitation or service begins, so the family sees them when they walk in. Order a day ahead when you can. Always confirm the service time and location with the family or the funeral home.
Should I send a standing spray or a casket spray?
Friends, coworkers and groups usually send a standing spray or a sympathy arrangement. The casket spray is normally chosen by the immediate family, so check with them before you order one.
Is it better to send flowers to the service or to the family's home?
Both are fine. Flowers at the service honor the person in front of everyone who attends. A plant or arrangement at home comforts the family in the quieter days after, and it does not need to be timed to the service.
How soon can you deliver to Curlew Hills Memory Gardens?
Orders placed by 3:00 PM Eastern can be delivered the same day, and our shop is about 2.3 miles away. For a service later in the week, schedule the delivery for that day and include the service time in your notes.
